PennDOT Addressing Deteriorated Roads In The Malvern Area

With harsh winter weather comes increasingly damaged roads. Snow melts, then refreezes, then melts, and refreezes, then melts... All the ice on roads causes existing cracks and potholes to become even more troublesome for drivers and their vehicles.

The recent cold and warm temperature cycles in the Philadelphia area have led PennDOT to mobilize crews across the region to address the deteriorated roads, including roads in East Whiteland and West Whiteland townships.

Among the 70 state highways being taken care of by PennDOT maintenance and contractor crews next week are five roads in East Whiteland and West Whiteland.

They are:

• Route 100 in West Whiteland
• U.S. 30 Bypass in West Whiteland and East Whiteland
• Route 401 (Conestoga Road) in East Whiteland
• Boot Road in West Whiteland
• Phoenixville Pike in West Whiteland

The patching operations, which are weather dependent, will result in traffic slowdowns and backups as lane closures will be in effect where state and contractor crews are working, PennDOT said.

Additionally, PennDOT is urging drivers to report any potholes and other road concerns by calling (800) 349-7623 or submitting a report online here.

"Extreme fluctuations in temperatures coupled with an active snow season is causing an early outbreak of potholes in the Philadelphia region, especially on older roadway surfaces," PennDOT District 6 Executive Kenneth M. McClain said. “We encourage the public to report pothole locations to our toll-free number or online, so crews can schedule repairs as quickly as possible."
