MALVERN, PA — Police and emergency services issued an "urgent" plea early Monday afternoon for residents to remove their vehicles from the roadways.

While the snow ended on Sunday, snow emergencies remain in place in many municipalities around the region Monday as plows and salt trucks attempt to clear the roads.

A number of vehicles remain on roads around Malvern, however, police said.

"All vehicles must be REMOVED from Borough streets to allow plowing, effective IMMEDIATELY," police said in message that was sent out through the Chester County emergency alert system. "Cars left on roadways will be TICKETED AND TOWED."

Residents are also urged to shovel snow and ice only onto sidewalks, not the streets.

Violations can carry fines starting at $100, with higher penalties for repeat offenses.

Malvern received 12.5 inches of snow Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
