Three Friars Named to Archdiocese All-Catholic Chorus

Three Malvern Prep students auditioned and qualified for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's All-Catholic Chorus this year.

Three Malvern Prep students, senior Andrew Stetser of Havertown, freshman Christian Franck of Kennett Square and senior Phil Daubney of Exton, auditioned and qualified for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s All-Catholic Chorus this year.

This year is Stetser’s fourth, and he will be receiving a special award from the Archdiocese recognizing this achievement. “It is exciting to be in the All-Catholic Chorus for four years. I’ve gotten to work with amazing conductors, and the songs that we do are have been really fun,” says Stetser. “Going to Men’s Chorus at Malvern everyday with our teacher Ed Liga has been one of the things that has made my Malvern experience and has been a huge impact on my life. I’ve learned a ton about music, music history and performing.”

The boys auditioned at Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia on November 6 with more than 200 of the best student singers from the area’s Catholic and private schools. They sang Palestrina’s “Sicut Cervus,” a sacred renaissance period motet in Latin, and were judged by Archdiocesan and private school music teachers on their pitch and rhythmic accuracy, intonation, vocal technique and musicianship.
