Hillview Founder Returns for 90th Birthday Celebration!

Kicking off her 90th birthday, Hillview Nursery School Founder, Dr. Elaine Samans, comes to visit the students of Hillview!

Kicking off her 90th birthday with a reminiscent tour of her former stomping grounds, Hillview Nursery School Founder, Dr. Elaine Samans comes to visit the students of Hillview!

On Friday, January 23rd, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Elaine Samans at Hillview Nursery School for her 90th birthday. Dr. Samans founded the school in 1957 shortly after moving into the newly developed community. Dr. Samans purchased one of the first homes in the development with her loving husband and quickly fell into a leadership role forming a neighborhood group, spearheading the construction of the development’s first community center. Soon, Dr. Samans had a small family of her own. After her first born was on the cusp of starting preschool, she quickly found that there was a need for a strong academic program for the preschool and prekindergarten age groups within the area. Letting her natural leadership skills guide the way, Dr. Samans soon found herself spearheading a new groundbreaking project: transforming the current neighborhood community center into a much needed preschool. The community came together once again building the foundation (literally and figuratively) to form Hillview Nursery School. Many members of the neighborhood dedicated their time and services building the community center and school from the ground up. The school opened its doors in 1957 after much research, hard work and dedication from not only Dr. Samans, but the entire community.

It was wonderful listening to Dr. Samans share her story with the current students and teachers of Hillview, and the students highly enjoyed asking questions about the construction of the actual building and the animals that Dr. Samans and her team used to see on the grounds.
