Loomis School Students Hear About the American Flag From The Marine Corps League

The Gen. Smedley D. Butler Detachment Gives Its Flag History Presentation to Over 100 1st and 2nd Graders

Each year the Americanism team of the General Smedley D. Butler Detachment of Newtown Square, returns to the Loomis Elementary School in Broomall to present its Americanism/Flag history program. On Tuesday, May 10, it was once again time for the team to visit the school. Marines Jim Mulhern and Earle Drake, this year without Marine Dan Fitzpatrick and his bugle (Dan was on duty playing Taps at a military funeral arrived early to make their presentation. This year's audience consisted of approximately 100 first and second graders and six of their teachers. The students asked goodThe  questions and enjoyed participating. Since Dan was playing Taps at a military funeral, Earle Drake used the back-up electronic bugle and played "To the Colors" and "Retreat". Marine Drake demonstrated to the students how it was the electronic bugle playing the bugle calls and that he was just holding the bugle. Jim and Earle presented the Loomis School a Certificate of Appreciation for their efforts in support of the Butler Detachment's Americanism program. The attached photo shows, left to right, Jim Mulhern, teachers Debbie Meenan and Stephanie DeLiberty and Earle Drake.
