3 Lower Merion Area Students Nominated To Attend Military Academies
Three Lower Merion-area students have earned the nod to attend the United States Merchant Marine, Naval, and Air Force academies.
LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — Three students attending school in Lower Merion have been nominated to attend the United States military service academies
Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) recently students she nominated for appointments to United States service academies for the Class of 2027.
Among the 28 local high school students nominated are three in the Lower Merion area.

- Megan Adelman, The Baldwin School — United States Air Force Academy; United States Naval Academy
- Melania Diah, Friends Central School — United States Air Force Academy; United States Naval Academy
- Avi Ragozzino, Harriton High School — United States Merchant Marine Academy
"Getting to know each of these accomplished young men and women makes me very proud to represent such an active and service-oriented constituency," Scanlon said. "The U.S. military academies are among the finest institutions in the world, and I am confident my young constituents' experience at the academies will help them continue their development as the leaders of the future. I thank all of this year’s nominees for their commitment to serving our country."
Candidates for nomination were interviewed and recommended for selection by the PA-05 Service Academy Selection Board, led by Col. Jim King (USAF, Ret.), Scott Belveal (USMA ’92), Capt. Harry “Skip” Dittmann (USNA, Ret.), and Cmdr. Jamer Doughty (USN, USMMA ’01).
