Delco Crossing Guard Assault Suspect IDed, Arrested In South Carolina: Police

Investigators believe the suspect got impatient with the crossing guard as she stopped traffic for kids on a bus.

DARLINGTON, SC — A man accused of assaulting a crossing guard near a Delaware County elementary school was arrested in South Carolina, authorities said Friday.

Rashiem Russell is accused of assaulting a crossing guard as she helped children cross the street Monday afternoon in Darby. The incident happened by Walnut Street Elementary School.

The crossing guard suffered a concussion and has since resigned, according to NBC Philadelphia.

Authorities believe the suspect got impatient with the victim as she stopped traffic for children on a bus.

On Friday, authorities publicly identified Russell as the suspect. He was arrested around 11 a.m. by U.S. Marshals fugitive task force personnel in Darlington, South Carolina.

Investigators determined that Russell has a close family member in Darlington. He was arrested without incident.

Russell, 29, of Philadelphia, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, stalking, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats and harassment.

He is being held at a South Carolina jail, pending extradition to Pennsylvania.
