Marple, Newtown Get $1.1M From State To Maintain Roads, Bridges
Combined, Marple and Newtown received more than $1.1M from the state in liquid fuels payments to help maintain local roads and bridges.
MARPLE-NEWTOWN, PA — Marple and Newtown townships has received more than $1.1 million combined from the state to help maintain local roads and bridges.
The money is from PennDOT's Municipal Liquid Fuels Program. A total of $500.7 million was committed to municipalities around the state.
"Pennsylvania has the fifth-largest state-maintained road system in the country, and the locally owned network is even larger," PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards said in a statement. "Mobility and safety on all our state's roadways is critical, which is why Governor Wolf has proposed Restore Pennsylvania to improve roadways in all our communities."

The total amount of funding is formulated based on local population and the number of roads that are locally owned.
Marple's net allocation is $735,814.35. That's based on 79.89 miles of local road and a population of 23,428, per the state.

Newtown is getting $413,012.12 based on 50.21 miles of road and a population of 12,216.
The funding also helps local municipalities with things like snow removal and road repaving.
