Marple Township Declares Snow Emergency Ahead of Storm

The emergency declaration will assist with snow removal and ensure safe passage for emergency vehicles, officials said.

Marple Township has declared a snow emergency effective at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The declaration comes in response to extreme weather conditions and forecasts predicting significant snow accumulation in the area.

The primary purpose of the snow emergency is to facilitate snow removal efforts across the township. It also aims to ensure the safe passage of emergency vehicles during the inclement weather period. These steps are taken to maintain public safety and essential services for residents, officials said.

The Emergency Declaration is scheduled to conclude at midnight on Monday. Residents are advised to monitor official township channels for any updates regarding the emergency status.

When a snow emergency is declared, the following rules are in place:

  • No parking anywhere on any snow emergency route.
  • No driving any vehicle on any such snow emergency route unless that vehicle is equipped with snow tires, chains, or other suitable tract devices.
  • Do not drive any vehicle which then becomes stuck on any snow emergency route during a snow emergency because of or related to the failure of that vehicle to be equipped with snow tires, chains, or other suitable traction devices.
  • Residents are responsible for clearing clear snow, sleet, and ice from the sidewalks in front of their property no more than 24 hours after a storm.
  • Residents are also reminded that it is declared unlawful for any property owner, resident, contractor, agent or employee, to shovel, plow, discharge or otherwiseplace snow removed from private property into any street, roadway, sidewalk or alley within Marple Township.
  • Trash receptacles may not be placed on the street. This inhibits the snow removal vehicles from doing their job. Residents should place trash cans either on the lawn or curb in front of their property.
  • Residents should avoid parking in cul-de-sacs. If they must park in a cul-de-sac or they leave their vehicle on or near the highway, they should notify the Police Department by calling 911.
  • Residents are also reminded not to clear the end of their driveway until the storm has stopped and the road is plowed curb to curb.

Also, during the snow emergency, all township buildings will be closed to the public. This includes the municipal building, the library, Paxon Hollow Country Club, and all recreation locations.

Township buildings will remain closed until Marple Township Public Works personnel can safely assess and determine that conditions are safe for reopening, officials said. Public Works crews will be working to clear roads and ensure public areas are secure.
