Newtown Township Named A Tree City USA

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Arbor Day Foundation has named Newtown Township a 2021 Tree City USA.

Tree City USA designation means Newtown Township joins a network of over 3,000 communities, with a total population of 155 million people, that are participating in this program.

The Tree City USA designation means that the township achieved this honor by meeting the foundation’s four requirements:

• Forming a tree board or department
• Creating a tree care ordinance
• Having an annual forestry budget of at least $2 per capita
• Creating an Arbor Day observance and proclamation

"Being named a Tree City USA® by the Arbor Day Foundation is a big honor for the Township," said Leonard Altieri, Chairman Newtown Township Board of Supervisors. "As communities large and small look for ways to manage natural resources, planting and maintaining trees is recognized as a proven method of enhancing the natural environment and the well-being of the people in the community. The next time you see a tree in the Township, know that it is more than just a beautiful sight—it is helping to build a brighter and greener future for all of us!"

The 2021 designation marks the fifth time in six year that the township has been recognized.
