PECO Gas Reliability Station In Broomall Gets Approval From State
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission Thursday gave the go-ahead for a natural gas reliability station at Cedar Grove and Sproul roads.
BROOMALL, PA — Despite being shut down by Marple Township, a natural gas reliability station in Broomall is moving forward after a decision from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.
The commission voted 3-0 to allow the controversial station to be installed at Cedar Grove and Sproul in Broomall.
Marple denied PECO's request for a zoning change that would allow the station to be installed.

The township opposed the station due to its proximity to homes and the business district.
However, PECO went to the state for approval.

With the 3-0 vote, the commission said the station is "reasonably necessary for the convenience and welfare of the public," thus making it exempt from zoning requirements.
Broomall residents pushed back on the station and said it could present dangers to the area.
In a Change.org petition that sought to stop the facility's construction, residents said issued from the facility could range from traffic impacts, environmental dangers, and potential "acts of malice or even terrorism."
