Pencil Used As Weapon In Delco School Stabbing Monday: Officials
A 14-year-old Upper Darby High School freshman was taken into police custody Monday after allegedly stabbing another student over a girl.

UPPER DARBY, PA – Upper Darby School District officials said a pencil was the weapon used when a student stabbed another student on Monday, June 4.
In a statement to the school community, Upper Darby School District Superintendent Dan Nerelli said while rumors of a knife being used in the stabbing swelled, it was actually a pencil that injured the 15-year-old Upper Darby High School freshmen stabbing victim.
"I want to be sure that our community realizes that there was no knife used during the altercation and a weapon was not present in the high school," the statement read.

Nerelli said the victim has since been released from Lankenau Hospital and will make a full recovery. Police said he suffered a stab wound to the back and various cuts to his head, neck, arms and hands.
Police took a 14-year-old freshman into custody in connection with the stabbing and will likely be charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and related crimes, police said.

The fight between the students appears to have been over a girl, police said.
According to police, the suspect waited for the victim to leave the school before attacking him.
