Preserve OLD MASTERS Public Golf Course -- Save green space!

Saving family enjoyable green space in an area that is going too concrete is of value and priority. Iconic Old Masters should be preserved.

Old Masters Public Golf Course is not only an iconic landmark where friends and families

have made memories golfing and sledding for generations, but it is a place of open green space leading to some of the most pristine nature trails along the beautiful Preston Run Creek which becomes Crum Creek. This area is also adjacent to important wetlands for migratory birds, and it is the perfect habitat for our native wildlife, like deer, foxes, and tortoises (just to name a few).

Old Masters never had the typical green carpet appearance of private golf clubs who drench their grounds with herbicides and pesticides --- but we loved the free fields where you could lick your gold ball for luck (as many golfers do), with no fear of coming down with a disease caused by toxins.

Now, however, there is development knocking on the back door --- Claude De Botton wants to erect eight four-story apartment buildings, 700 parking spaces, and office space! What will that do to the quality of this nice green patch of land? First, we the people, will lose the fun recreation and natural area; then the pollution that comes with building; the air quality will be less; the wildlife will disperse; there will be noise pollution; more heavy traffic in the area; lights glaring at night over the 700 parking spaces; more people will discover the nature trails which will leave them at higher risk for litter and pollution. I can only think of negatives when it comes to Old Masters meeting the bulldozers -- the only positive is to enrich the developer as the last thing our area needs is more apartments, and office space. In addition, Old Masters is one of the very few public golf courses left!
