Driver Seriously Hurt After Falling Tree Strikes SUV On I-476 In Delco

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Interstate 476 north in the Marple Township area is open again after a tree fell on a vehicle, seriously injuring its driver.

The crash occurred at about 11:05 a.m. on northbound Interstate 476, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The highway was closed between Route 3 in Marple and Route 30 in Radnor at about 11:15 a.m., according to the Broomall Fire Company. Traffic was flowing normally by about 1:15 p.m.

Authorities said a red Toyota Rav 4 was struck by a falling tree.

As a result, the unidentified driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital

The Delaware County Daily Times reports at least one person was entrapped in the vehicle.

Debris from the tree struck two other vehicles, but the occupants of those vehicles were not harmed, police said.

The crash also closed a lane of southbound Interstate 476, according to PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.
