Stratford Friends School, the nation's first-ever Quaker school designed to meet the needs of students with language based learning differences, is inviting the school community to celebrate 40 years of serving students in the area.

On Saturday, March 11, the school will host The Stratford Affair at the Teca Restaurant, 191 S. Newtown Street, Newtown Square to honor the school's founders, Dorothy Flanagan and Sandy Howze.

The affair kicks off at 6 p.m. with Flanagan and Howze set to be honored by Head of School Jill Dougherty at 8 p.m.

Flanagan and Howze will be honored for their dedication to creating a school where each student has the resources to celebrate strengths, build self-esteem, and develop self-advocacy, the school said.

"March is Women’s History Month, and a wonderful opportunity to honor these women who made history in our community," according to a press release on the affair. "The spring benefit includes a silent and live auction. Guests will also have the opportunity to help raise money for new smart boards in each classroom."
