Tai Chi is one old form of Chinese exercise beneficial to health, and it is also a subtle, sophisticated, and scientific method of self-defense. It is basically made out of several forms or sets originally derived from martial arts, and it takes the form of the natural movements of animals and birds. However, unlike martial arts, Tai Chi is performed deliberately slow, softly, and gracefully with smooth and even transitions between movements. Those who practice regularly will develop a healthy body and a calm, tranquil mind. It also provides a practical avenue for learning about balance, alignment, fine-scale motor control, and rhythm of movement. Therefore, the practice will enable you to better stand, walk, run, and correct poor posture. This program is suitable for people of all ages and requires no special equipment. Class will meet at the Gauntlett Community Center. Lucia Coren will provide authentic Chinese instruction.
