Take A Guided Bird Walk In Newtown Meadow Preserve Sept 15

Members of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club​ will lead the two-hour bird-watching walk through the 50-acre nature preserve.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA – Nature lovers and bird watchers in the Newtown Square area are invited to join the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club for an exciting and instructional Bird Walk at the Newtown Meadow Preserve on Sept. 15.

The Bird Walk will be held in the preserve from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 and is free to attend.

Delaware Valley Ornithological Club members Edwin Shafer, Coordinator of Sustainability at Episcopal Academy, and Alan Crawford, will lead the walk for novices and advanced birders alike.

Depending on the fall migration this season, attendees are likely to see a number of warblers, vireos, and flycatchers.

Participants should wear drab colors – such as green, brown, and other earth tones – and a cap with a visor.

Additionally, participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and wear sunscreen, insect repellant, and sturdy shoes as the walk will cover uneven, unpaved, and hilly terrain.

To join the Bird Walk event, park in the Episcopal Academy Lower School Parking Lot.

Enter at the Episcopal Academy (1785 Bishop White Drive) main entrance off Route 252, turn left and follow the signs to the parking area bordering Newtown Meadow Preserve. Follow the sign to the Preserve walking trail. The group will meet at the wooden kiosk at the Preserve entrance.

The Newtown Meadow Preserve is Newtown Township's largest and newest natural area, a 50-acre parcel of rolling hills, wetlands and woods located off Route 252 South, between Episcopal Academy and the Liseter housing development.
