Pa. boosts EMS funding as agencies face rising costs (ems1.com) — Meadville Central Fire Department is getting new video laryngoscopes and other EMS tools thanks to a share of $56 million in recent state funding, helping improve emergency care locally. State health officials and EMMCO West leaders say the investment, plus new tuition assistance and recruitment support, aims to keep enough trained responders on the road as costs rise for Crawford County agencies.

Jury selection starts in Meadville lawyer rape trial (yourerie.com) — Jury selection is underway in Crawford County for the trial of a Meadville attorney charged with multiple sex-related offenses involving a woman who sought his legal help in 2025. A Venango County judge is presiding, the trial is expected to last about three days, and the defendant remains free on bond while facing the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.

Team of Grover entrepreneurs earns Next Big Idea award (gcc.edu) — A student startup competition hosted at Allegheny College in Meadville recently awarded a Grove City College team $1,000 for Medicap, a smart pill bottle concept to help patients stick to prescriptions. The Zingale Big Idea Competition brought students from 11 schools to Meadville, pairing cash prizes with mentoring from business professionals.
