45 To 90 Years Prison Time For Delco Attempted Murdered: DA

MEDIA, PA – A 25-year-old Delaware County man will spend at least 45 years behind bars in connection with a 2016 attempted murder, according to Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland.

Darron Davis, 25, of Chester, was sentenced to 45 to 90 years in state prison for shooting a 39-year-old Chester man on September 9, 2016, the DA's office said.

Davis was found guilty of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and related offenses following a two-day jury trial before Delaware County Common Pleas Court Judge James Bradley.

The jury deliberated for about two-and-a-half hours before delivering a verdict on April 4, 2018.

Davis was convicted of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, robbery of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to robbery of a motor vehicle, and related offenses.

The investigation was led by Detective Joseph McFate of the Chester Police Department and prosecuted by Delaware County Assistant District Attorney Sam Yim.

At about 7:04 p.m. on September 9, 2016, Chester Police were called to the 300 block of West Second Street for a report of a gunshot victim.

On scene, police found a victim who had been shot twice in the head.

When asked where the shooting had taken place, the victim gestured with his eyes toward the south side of Route 291.

Detectives later learned Davis had shot the victim, and along with a co-conspirator, stole the victim’s 2005 Lexus ES330 and his cell phone.

"The fact that Darron Davis nearly took another man’s life over a car and a cell phone, shooting him and leaving him to die on the side of the road, demonstrates a horrific disregard for the value of human life," Copeland said. "While we are extremely satisfied with the sentence of 45-90 years, we know that no sentence can undo the damage this man did to the victim and his family, but residents are now safer, as Darron Davis will be behind bars for the majority of his life. I would like to commend Assistant District Attorney Sam Yim for his outstanding efforts to bring this case to justice, and Detective Joseph McFate of the Chester Police Department for conducting a swift and thorough investigation that led to the apprehension of this dangerous individual along with his co-defendant."
