American Cancer Society Road to Recovery® Program is Providing Life-Saving Rides in Delaware County

Delaware County, PA (December 17, 2012) – As we get closer to the New Year, consider fitting volunteering into your schedule. Road to Recovery is a volunteer driving service for members of the Greater Philadelphia community, including Delaware County. This free service offers transportation to and from treatments for those who have been diagnosed with cancer. The program is currently seeking volunteer drivers.  Volunteer schedules are flexible and can adjust according to your availability. The only requirements are a clean driving record, valid driver’s license, and proof of automobile insurance.

Every day, cancer patients in our area miss potentially life-saving cancer treatments because they are unable to find a ride.  Current Road to Recovery volunteer driver, Joan Forwood said “This is a very worthwhile program for the patient, but it gives the driver great satisfaction knowing they have helped someone in need.” Having cancer is difficult, finding help shouldn’t be. Call Kimberly Brydges at the American Cancer Society at  888.202.1487 ext. 65135 to learn how to become a driver for the Road to Recovery® program. If you or someone you know has cancer and would like information, day-to-day help, or emotional support, please contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345, or visit cancer.org.
