On Sunday, June 3 the Cancer Survivors Walk and Duck Race had something special for everyone! Doggie Pageant, Kids’ Games, Hot Dogs on the grill and the hundreds of Rubber Duckies racing in the creek were all part of the fun for more than 70 people who attended.
Organizers were pleased with the weather conditions since previous years have brought sweltering temperatures and stormy skies. Not so this year- temps in the 60’s with no humidity and not a threatening cloud to be found. A lovely and peaceful walk through the woods followed the yipping and strutting of the ‘dogs-on-parade’, showcasing Blueford “Bandana Boy”, Cha-Cha “Pink Princess”, Coda “Sailor”, and Sophie “Surfer Girl”, all placing in the show.
The rubber duckies in the creek raced for their sponsors to win prizes of $500, $200 and $100 Visa Gift Cards. The Sunshine Fund in The Cancer Center at Riddle benefits from the $3,200 raised this year, which will help patients receiving treatments at Riddle who may need some financial help with covering co-pays, prescriptions, wigs or even cab fare to get to the hospital.
