Arrest Made In Gunfight Near Chester High School

Federal authorities said they arrested one of the men in a shootout near Chester High School that was caught on camera Sept. 20.

CHESTER, PA — US Marshals arrested a man who was allegedly involved in a daytime gunfight in Chester near the high school, federal officials said.

Haneef Payne, 38, whose last known address was in Brookhaven, was arrested at about 10 a.m. Monday in Lawrence Township, New Jersey, federal authorities said.

Payne is accused of exchanging gunfire with another man on Sept. 20 at 10th and Parker streets, near Chester High School, in the City of Chester.

Federal Marshals from Philadelphia and members of the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force said they got information that Payne was hiding in a Red Roof Inn in Lawrence and conducted surveillance at the hotel Monday morning.

Payne was taken into custody without incident at the hotel.

He was taken to the Mercer County Correctional Center where he awaits extradition back to Chester, authorities said.

Payne was wanted for possession of a weapon in related to the shooting, according to authorities.

He and another unidentified male were captured on video recklessly firing guns at one another, authorities said.
