Arrest Made In Deadly July Delco Corner Store Shooting

CHESTER, PA — A 19-year-old Chester man has been charged with murder in connection with a deadly shooting at a local corner store in July.

The City of Chester Police Department said Haneef Melton, 19, of Chester, was taken into custody on Wednesday at about 9:44 a.m. near the 1300 block of Filbert Street in Philadelphia.

Melton was wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred at about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 2 at a corner store at 1100 Morton Ave.

Officers from the City of Chester Police Department were called to the store for a shooting victim inside.

There, they found the victim, 27-year-old Dontae Dickerson, on the floor with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Paramedics pronounced Dickerson dead at the scene.

Melton is being held at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility without bail.

He is scheduled for an Oct. 7 preliminary hearing.
