Philly Actress Micki Sharpe Takes on Role of Vera in Media's 'Mame'

Philadelphia actress Micki Sharpe will step into the role of Vera in The Media Theatre's production of the classic musical "Mame" April 27 through May 5. She will perform alongside legendary Broadway actress Andrea McArdle who has the title role in Artistic Director Jesse Cline's revival.

Micki Sharpe was in the original production of "Nunsense" at Society Hill Playhouse 25 years ago as Sister Robert. The show ran for four years, winning the Mayor's Award for longest running musical in Philadelphia history. She toured "Nunsense" as well, working with Edie Adams in regional theatres on the East Coast including The Valley Forge and Westbury Music Fairs. 

During the last three decades, she has also performed in many other musicals and plays including Off-Broadway at the Gene Frankel, Playwrights Horizon, and Circle in the Square. New Candlelight Theatre audiences in Delaware saw her as Mrs. Meers in "Thoroughly Modern Millie", and Hedgerow audiences applauded her work as The Reverend Mother in "Nunsense" and Maggie in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". She appeared previously at The Media Theatre as Golde in "Fiddler on The Roof".

She performs and directs/ choreographs at regional theatres in Vermont and North Carolina. A student of the Actors Studio, she developed a drama program at Bishop McGuinness High School. 

"Mame" is the classic musical all about the eccentric socialite who finds out she must care for her young nephew. Andrea McArdle, Broadway's original Annie, plays the title role. Jerry Herman's score includes one of the most famous stage duets of all time, "Bosom Buddies", in which Mame and Vera exchange sarcastic jibes at each other as best friends.
