Delco Police Officer Dies In Non-Combat Related Incident: US Navy

Selected Reserve Chief Hospital Corpsman Daniel D. McCracken, who was a Chester Police officer, died May 6, according to the Navy.

CHESTER, PA — A Chester Police officer who was also a member of the United States Navy's Selected Reserve has died, according to officials.

The Navy said Selected Reserve Chief Hospital Corpsman Daniel D. McCracken died from a non-combat related incident while deployed in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility on May 6.

Officials said the cause of death is under investigation.

According to his obituary, McCracken was attached to Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 8 and on Temporary Active Duty orders to Naval Special Warfare Development Group, otherwise known as SEAL Team 6, a counterterrorism unit administered by US Naval Special Warfare Command.

"When not on Active Duty Recall, he served as a Police Officer for the City of Chester," his obituary reads. "He served 18 years as a Firefighter and EMT at Newtown Square Fire Department and was an Eagle Scout."

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends, and shipmates who are impacted," a Navy news release said. "We care about our Sailors – and their families – and we continue to do everything possible to support them."

McCracken is survived by his children, Ronin and Lily, his father David (Denise), mother Ginger, Sisters Jessica (Nate) and Sarah (Timothy) and brother Josh (Jess), as well as many nieces and nephews, per his obituary.
