Man Who Shot At Delco Cop Monday In 'Grave' Condition: Police

The suspect who shot at a Chester police officer is in "grave" condition from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

CHESTER, PA – A Delaware County police was shot at and the suspect is now in "grave" condition after an incident Monday morning in Chester, according authorities.

At about 11:28 a.m. Tuesday, Chester Police responded to the 600 block of Highland Avenue in Chester for a report of a man beating a woman, police said in a press conference Tuesday.

Police said the responding officer was shot at upon arrival to the scene but was not hit.

The officer then engaged in a physical altercation with the suspect, identified only as a 25-year-old man, police said.

The suspect then attempted to go inside a home on the block and the officer and suspect struggled with the door while trying to take him into custody, according to police.

The officer was ordered to stand down as more units came to assist the scene and as authorities began setting up their active shooter protocol a report of a gunshot came in, police said.

Police then entered the home and found a woman, the victim of the crime, safe but shaken and the male suspect suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect is in "grave" condition and suffering from serious wounds at Crozer Chester Medical Center as of Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

No officers were hurt during the incident and officers did not fire any shots.

Police said the man and woman were boyfriend and girlfriend and that a child was at the scene.
