Woman Killed In Deadly Delco Crash, Shooting Incident Identified

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — More details on Tuesday's deadly incident in Chester have been released by authorities, including the deceased woman's identity.

According to police in Wilmington, Delaware, the incident began just before noon Tuesday when members of the Wilmington Police Department’s Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division, Uniformed Services Division and Canine Unit responded to the 300 block of North Madison Street.

They were looking for police as 23-year-old Yazmyn Stewart, who was wanted in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on December 2, 2023, in Wilmington.

Stewart fled police and rammed multiple marked Wilmington Police vehicles before fleeing from police onto I-95 northbound into Delaware County, police said.

Wilmington Police Department and the Delaware State Police chased the vehicle into Delaware County, where she suspect crashed her vehicle and shot at police, authorities said.

Two Delaware State Police troopers fired at Stewart, police said. It's unclear if she was hit by their gunfire.

Stewart then stole another vehicle, an SUV, in Chichester, according to Chester City Police.

She then drove to Chester, where she crashed into a structure at 12th and Kerlin streets.

Steward got into a home in the area and then got into a third vehicle, a maroon sedan, police said.

While she tried to drive off, three members of the Wilmington Police Department, five members of the Delaware State Police, one member of the Trainer Borough Police Department and one member of the Chester Police Department fired at Stewart.

Police said she succumbed to her injuries, but it's unclear if those injuries came from police gunfire.

One Wilmington Police officer was taken to a hospital for evaluation of a minor injury, but no one else was hurt, police said.

The Delaware County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident.

. The Wilmington Police officers who discharged their firearms have been placed on administrative duty pending the investigation, and this incident is being investigated by the WPD Criminal Investigations Division and the Office of Professional Standards.
