Drunk Delco Man Attacks Wrong Person With Baseball Bat: Police

Authorities said the attack, caught on the gas station's video surveillance camera, was a case of mistaken identity.

PROSPECT PARK, PA — A drunken Delaware County man ran into a local gas station and attacked a victim inside with a baseball bat in what authorities believe was a case of mistaken identity, police said.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 8 at around 11 p.m.

Brian Taylor, 35, of Prospect Park, drove to the Marathon gas station and began tapping on the door with his baseball bat, police said.

Video surveillance footage shows him then entering the gas mart, approaching the victim, and beginning to swing the bat at him, police said.

The victim suffered "significant injuries," police said, but was able to flee out of the gas station and into heavy traffic on Chester Pike to escape Taylor.

Police said the victim had never seen Taylor before in his life.

Taylor gave himself away to authorities by driving to the gas station, allowing police to obtain his license plate and home address.

Authorities took Taylor into custody at his home and located the bat used in the incident, police said.

He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, terroristic threats, public drunkenness, and related counts.

Taylor was booked at George W. Hill Correctional Facility after failing to post bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 8.
