Fire Tears Through Delaware County Abandoned Church: Reports

A fire broke out at what authorities called a "basically abandoned" church in Chester early Tuesday, causing severe damage to the structure.

CHESTER, PA — Fire severely damaged a Delaware County church Tuesday morning, according to reports.

The fire broke out at about 3:50 a.m. at St. Mary's Church of God at West 3rd and Parker streets, NBC10 reports.

As crews battled the blaze, the fire was upgraded to three alarms when the church's roof collapse, according to Fox 29.

The fire was under control by about 6 a.m. and no one was hurt, Action News reports.

Authorities said the church was "basically abandoned" and are working to determine the cause of the fire.
