Fire Tears Through Recreation Club Building In Delco

The building was once home to the local fire department.

ASTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Multiple fire departments battled a blaze early Sunday at a building that housed a recreation club in Delaware County.

The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. at the Green Ridge Recreation Club (2225 Duttons Mill Rd., Aston Township).

Firefighters controlled the blaze in about an hour. The Aston Township Fire Department cleared the scene just before 5 a.m.

About 10 other fire departments were on-scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Aston Fire Marshal's Office, Aston Detective Division and the State Fire Marshal.

The Green Ridge Fire Company used the building as a firehouse before moving down the street to the Aston Township Fire Department's current facility.

A decade ago, the Green Ridge and Aston-Beechwood fire companies merged into the Aston Township Fire Department.
