Judge Orders Massive Reassessment Of Delaware County Properties: Report

A lack of conformity with the state constitution has led a judge to order all properties assessed since 2000 be reassessed.

All properties assessed in Delaware County since 2000 have been ordered to be reassessed by a county judge after two parties filed suits challenging the county's assessments, according to a report from the Delaware County Daily Times.

Delaware County Common Pleas Court Judge Charles B. Burr ordered the reassessment on the heels of a Haverford couple and and a Rose Valley Couple who each filed property assessment appeals on a condominium and townhouse several years ago, respectively, the outlet reports.

With the reassessment, which will be effective in 2021, county property owners and home buyers will see a vast difference in assessment values when compared to the assessment procedure that was in effect in 2000, the Times reports.

According to the Times Burr ruled the former assessment procedure was in violation of the Pennsylvania Constitution, which says "all taxes shall be uniform, upon the same class of subjects, within the territorial limits of the authority levying the tax."
