Media Named 'Hottest Suburban Town' By Philly Magazine

The redevelopment of the Granite Run Mall is one of the highlights that landed Media on the hottest list.

Media was named one of the area's "10 Hottest Suburban Philadelphia Towns" in Philadelphia Magazine's March issue.

Media joined other towns such Ardmore, Malvern, and Phoenixville. Click here to see the full list.

The magazine said Media's resurgence is giving new life to Delaware County as a whole by offering lots of retail and housing space.

Here's what the magazine has to say about Media:

The formula for resurgence in Media is familiar. Step one: Add amenities downtown (five new restaurants opened last year; the many art strolls and popular holiday celebrations). Step two: Construct some new apartments that allow residents to walk to said amenities and public transportation (see the new, upscale West End Flats, which is bringing 162 apartments to State Street). Step three: Rehab dead zones (see BET Investments’ massive plan for the Granite Run Mall). Even though the latter two projects aren’t finished, this Delaware County town — which benefits from the fantastic Rose Tree Media School District and a quick commute to Center City — gets livelier each year.

The report goes on to discuss the redevelopment of the Granite Run Mall, which includes an open air plan, a bowling alley, a dine-in movie theater, and much more, that plans to conclude in 2018 and will be called Promenade at Granite Run.

“We don’t have to advertise anymore, because the restaurants are full,” Zubair Khan, of the Media Business Authority, told Philly Mag. “We draw patrons from a 10-to-20-mile radius.”
