Media Theatre Has Exciting Fall Line-Up With Shows and Classes

The summer doldrums have hit as families are taking last-minute vacations and trips to the Shore before school begins in full force after Labor Day. With only one holiday weekend to go prior to cooler weather approaching and lots of school buses hitting the morning rush hour, thoughts are on busy schedules coming up.

The Media Theatre also has a busy schedule approaching this fall to suit all ages and interests. Monty Python's "Spamalot" has its Delaware County and Philadelphia regional professional premiere September 25-November 3. The Tony winning musical based on their classic film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" focuses on a somewhat bewildered King Arthur (Dan Schiff) as he gathers several uniquely eccentric Knights to find the Grail. Along the way they meet a peeved Lady of the Lake (Ann Crumb) and several other broadly humorous characters. With several laughs per minute, "Spamalot" won The Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005.

Fall Acting Classes begin the weekend of September 7. This year The Media Theatre has a Level One Children's Class for beginner's or the less experienced as well as a Level Two Children's Class for the more experienced and knowledgeable young actor. Level One Children's Acting Class meets Saturday mornings at 9am, with Level Two meeting Tuesday afternoons at 4:30.

Teens have two choices as well with the expanded curriculum. A Teen Improvisation Class will meet on Tuesdays at 5:30, while the regular Teen Acting Class continues Sundays at 6pm--this time instructed by Roger Ricker. Tim Haney will educate the teens in the Improv Class.

The Adult Acting Class maintains its time period on Sundays at 7:30pm. It, as well as the other classes, focus on renowned acting teacher Sanford Meisner's technique which states that "Acting is living as truthfully as one can under and imaginary circumstance".

The New School will start up once again September 23. The conservatory-style music theatre education program has two age groups which meet weekly as they study acting, vocal music, and dance.

In October, The Media Theatre presents the first show in its 2013-14 Youth Series. "The Wizard of Oz" will captivate audiences on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons starting October 5 and running through November 17. The production is based on the classic film with all of the beloved songs including "If I Only Had A Brain" and "Over the Rainbow". The cast is made up of Media Theatre New School students, with a large ensemble and two adults (Shiron Denise and Jim Conte).

The holidays bring "Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" to the stage November 20-January 5 and a special one-man presentation of "A Christmas Carol" performed by Scott Langdon.
