
Representatives of Run For Heroes, Inc., delivered a contribution of $36,500 to the Delaware County Hero Scholarship Fund at the Sep. 18 County Council meeting held at the Springfield Township Municipal Building which represented proceeds of the 2012 run held to benefit the Hero Fund.
Former County Councilman John J. McFadden was joined by members of Run for Heroes to announce details of the 13th annual 5-K Run/Walk to be held on Oct. 13 in Springfield with all proceeds to benefit the Hero Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to the children of police, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel who have died in the line of duty.
Council Chairman Thomas J. McGarrigle, an original organizer of the event, was joined by members of Council in helping the Run for Heroes representatives kick off the event, which was established in 2006 to conduct the annual run. The event has raised more than $330,500 in the past 12 years, including five years when it was conducted by a previous sponsor.
