We know most teachers don't get into the profession for the money. But it's worth asking: Where do teachers make the most lucrative salaries in Pennsylvania?

The Pennsylvania Department of Education recently updated its database to include teacher salary data for 2016-17. And while the average salary for a teacher in Pennsylvania in 2016-17 was $66,265, teachers' paychecks vary greatly district by district.

In 2016-17, teachers at the Lower Merion School District received the highest average salary in Pennsylvania. Teachers there earned $99,253 on average. Council Rock School District, where teachers make an average of $96,116, is the second highest-paying district in Pennsylvania, according to the data.
