Alleged Child Rapist Remains At Large: Solebury Police

An alleged child rapist is on the run. "Pay special attention to areas along the Delaware River and canal towpath," the police said.

SOLEBURY, PA — An alleged child rapist on the run in the woods in Bucks County had not been located as of 9 p.m. Saturday. The last reported sighting of David Allen Hamilton Jr. was Friday in Solebury Township, where residents were required to shelter in place after the suspect was seen in the area of Stoney Hill Road. The shelter in place was lifted at 11:30 p.m. Friday, but the search continues.

Police said Hamilton was last observed in the area of Stoney Hill and Reeder roads in Solebury Township at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday. A New Hope Borough police officer tried to take Hamilton into custody; a struggle ensued and Hamilton attempted to take the officer's weapon, according to information from Solebury Township police. Hamilton then fled on foot into the woods.

"An extensive search of the area has been conducted and Hamilton has not been located," Solebury police said around 7 a.m. Saturday. Searches continued in the area of Sugan Road, Stoney Hill Road, and Aquetong Road.

Hamilton, 47, is charged with rape of a child, sexual assault on a child 11 or older, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old and other crimes. In all, he faces 12 charges. All but one of them are felonies, according to court documents. A warrant for Hamilton's arrest was issued on Wednesday by Lower Southampton Township Police.

Authorities conducted an "extensive" ground and aerial search of the area where he was last seen in Solebury Township. A shelter in place was implemented and police asked residents to "avoid the area."

While the shelter in place was lifted late Friday, "we ask all to keep vigilant," police said. "If he is spotted call 911 immediately, do not approach him."

Residents should report any suspicious activity, and contact police if they are needed to check any unsecured out buildings, sheds, and barns.

Earlier Friday, Hamilton was seen just after midnight as he was crossing the Calhoun Street bridge from Morrisville into Trenton. On Friday morning, Solebury Police warned residents: "Pay special attention to areas along the Delaware River and canal towpath."

Hours later it was confirmed Hamilton was in fact in Solebury.

Police said his car, a white 2016 Toyota Corolla PA-KSH7012, has been located and recovered in Morrisville. At one point Friday, police said he was riding a blue bicycle that he obtained and was wearing a Boonie hat, a dark jacket, light colored shorts and sneakers. It is not clear if he is still in possession of the bicycle.
