GOP Selects Replacement For State Rep. Bernie O'Neill

Longtime state representative Bernie O'Neill withdrew from his race for reelection to help care for his ailing sister.

Bucks County Republican Party’s Executive Committee has selected Meghan Schroeder to replace Bernie O'Neill on the ballot in the race for State Representative of the 29th District. Schroeder, Buckingham Township resident, was unanimously nominated by the committee during a meeting this week.

The 29th District includes Buckingham, Ivyland, New Hope, Solebury, Upper Southampton, Warminster, and Warwick.

O'Neill announced earlier this month he planned to withdraw from the race to help care for his ailing sister. He said Schroeder has his "full support."

Schroeder began her career in public service as an intern in O'Neill's office. "Over the years, I have had the privilege to watch her grow professionally and as a leader. There is no one better suited to serve as our next State Representative," said O'Neill.

“Meghan has worked on behalf of the residents of the 29th District her entire career, and her background and experience will serve her well as their next State Representative," said Pat Poprik, Chair of the Bucks County Republican Committee.

Schroeder said she was honored to be nominated.

“Bernie O’Neill has been a great leader for our community and mentor to me. I look forward to continuing his work providing fair education funding to our schools, fighting for property tax reform, and preserving open space.”
