Menorah Lighting To Mark First Night Of Chanukah In New Hope

NEW HOPE, PA — The Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce and Kehilat HaNahar, the Little Shul by the River, will light the menorah on the first night of Chanukah in downtown New Hope.

The community is invited to meet at the New Hope Visitors Center, 1 West Mechanic Street at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 18. There will be singing and light refreshments.

The Jewish holiday of Chanukah begins on Dec. 18 and ends on Dec. 26. It celebrates the re-dedication of the Temple of Jerusalem. Also known as the Festival of Lights, it is celebrated for eight nights and days with the lighting of a menorah.

The holiday commemorates the Maccabean Revolt of 165 BC, when the Jews regained control of Jerusalem from the Seleucid Empire.
