Private Donor Reception & Benefit Screening Will Support Documentary by Emmy Award Winning PBS Producer John Terry Nakashima

On Sunday, October 21, 2018, the Nakashima Foundation for Peace and Five-Time Emmy Award Winning PBS Producer John Terry Nakashima will co-host a benefit preview of an excerpt from the definitive documentary, George Nakashima, Woodworker in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The film is a biographical account of George Nakashima, recognized as one of the most influential woodworkers/designers of the twentieth century. In support of the documentary an exclusive reception will be held in the Nakashima Conoid Studio, a space designed and built by George Nakashima. The intimate affair will include an insider’s view of the film including special content, remarks by Mira Nakashima and Producer John Terry Nakashima, a catered reception by Max Hansen and live music by Celtic Harpist Darcy Fair. Members of the public are welcome to attend the reception for a donation of $175 per person.
Following the reception, a benefit screening will be held in the Nakashima Arts Building, also designed and built by George Nakashima. The event will provide attendees with a special opportunity to preview a 30-minute excerpt of the biographical documentary that includes forgotten footage of George Nakashima, interviews with colleagues from around the world and conversations with woodworkers who worked with George and those inspired by his work. In addition, the documentary will share commentary by design/woodwork historians, personal recollections from family members and highlights of the seminal woodworker’s most notable contributions in furniture design and architecture. Tickets for the preview screening are available to the public for a donation of $100 per person with all proceeds supporting the documentary and preservation of the architectural structures of the Nakashima compound.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend both benefit events in support of the legacy of George Nakashima. For tickets and additional information visit: https://nakashimafoundation.org/events/documentary/.
