New Hope Borough: Precautions Urged For Reorganization Meeting

A note from Borough Council President Connie Gering:

As we are all aware, the Covid virus is spreading rapidly, and the number of new cases and hospitalizations are increasing daily. We hope that you and your family are safe and that everyone is doing everything they can to be safe.

The Borough Government has a meeting on Monday, January 3rd at 7PM. The only purpose of this meeting is to swear in Mayor Larry Keller and the four members of Council who were elected this past November, and for Council to approve new leadership and members of the Borough's Boards and Commissions.

Obviously, a public gathering with a highly contagious virus running rampant is not ideal. While we'd like to delay the meeting, unfortunately, the statutes require that the Mayor and Council meet in person to conduct this business at the beginning of the year.

In order to protect the health of the community as best as we can, we have decided to conduct this meeting with enhanced safety in mind. Fortunately, these meetings are typically brief, and this one is expected to last about 15 minutes. As is normal for these meetings, the only Agenda items that will be covered will be the swearing-ins and the appointments. The outcome of the election is well-known, and the names of those being appointed are included in the Agenda that is posted online. No other business will be conducted.

Normally, these re-organization meetings are well-attended, and celebratory as a way of congratulating those who have been elected and welcoming the new members of the Boards and Commissions. We wish that could be the case this year... but we have to focus on what's important - the health of those in attendance and the community.

For those who wish to observe the proceedings, it is respectfully requested that everyone maintain social distance and obviously, masks will be required at all times.
