New Hope Eagle Fire Company Appoints First Paid Fire Chief

The company conducted a national search and reviewed a strong pool of candidates before selecting its new chief.

NEW HOPE, PA —The New Hope Eagle Fire Company has announced the appointment of Gary F. Breuer as its first paid chief in the company’s 201-year history.

The company conducted a national search and reviewed a strong pool of candidates before selecting Breuer as its new chief.

The Eagle Fire Company, one of the oldest volunteer fire companies in the nation, decided to create a new leadership structure to ensure its commitment to remaining a strong volunteer service organization through enhanced training, leadership development, and community engagement.

Chief Breuer brings to the job 40 years of emergency services experience and leadership as a firefighter, rescue technician, swift water and marine rescue technician, and emergency medical technician.

Task Force Leader with the New Jersey State Police’s Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 1, which
responds nationally for FEMA to natural and man-made disasters.

In addition, Breuer is the chief instructor at the Hunterdon County Emergency Services Training Center. He is also a responder at the West Amwell Volunteer Fire Company and the Flemington-Raritan First Aid & Rescue Squad.

Breuer, who previously served for 20 years as a police officer in Hunterdon County, is a
graduate of Hunterdon Central High School and the College of New Jersey. He and his wife and
children reside in West Amwell Township.

Chief Breuer will begin his new duties on February 5, and will lead a company with a strong line
of volunteer officers, firefighters, and first responders answering more than 400 calls per year
serving New Hope Borough and Solebury Township.
