New Hope Woman Killed By Train In New Jersey

A 25-year-old New Hope woman was struck and killed by a Trenton-bound Amtrak train Friday afternoon.

A 25-year-old New Hope woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Friday afternoon on the South Brunswick/Plainsboro border in New Jersey, police said.

At 4:23 p.m. Friday, May 11, South Brunswick police received a call from Amtrak police that a southbound Amtrak train headed towards Trenton had struck a person on the tracks. Officers located a deceased person on the tracks near the Plainsboro border, South Brunswick police said.

The woman was identified by Amtrak as Cherylyn Alderfer, 25, from New Hope.

"The cause of incident is still under investigation," said Amtrak spokesman Jason Abrams.

NJ Transit police are continuing to investigate how she ended up on the tracks.
