Retaining Wall Delays Completion Of Route 263 Project In Solebury

SOLEBURY, Pa. —PennDOT has pushed back the completion date for repairs to a section of Route 263 in the township that was washed out by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. The agency now expects work to be finished by early October.

The $1.3 million dollar project to replace an 800-foot-long section of Route 263 between River Road and Centre Bridge Road began in January, but the design of a new retaining wall proved to be more complicated than first anticipated. The extended design review and shipping delays for materials has pushed the originally-scheduled completion date back from July 1 into early fall.

The new wall is a key component of the project that will help protect the roadway from future storm damage. The work also includes repairing the damaged embankment, and replacing drainage facilities and guide rails. The design for the retaining wall is now complete, and the pilings and panels for its construction are on order.

Once the wall is built, the remaining step will be to construct the new road surface, which should be open to traffic again this fall.
