LAMBERTVILLE, NJ — Come 2020, you can say sayonara to your plastic bags, Lambertville. The city this week approved a plastic bag ban that will be mandatory on Jan. 1, 2020.
Under the new law, businesses will not be able to use plastic carryout bags or Styrofoam containers. Plastic straws may be provided to customers only upon request. All stores must offer a paper carryout bag or reusable bag.
The rules are voluntary beginning Oct. 1, and will be mandatory on Jan. 1, 2020.

"The regulations are intended to assist the City with the elements in the PARIS Accord and in reducing our carbon footprint by promoting products that will protect the environment, wildlife, and the public health and welfare and safety of our community as a whole," the ordinance states.
During the first 10 months of the program, businesses will be solicited by the Environmental Commission to participate.
