Local Woman Is Finalist In Phanatic Cake Contest
Giant Food Stores will present the winning cake, by a bakery specialist from one of its stores, at the Phillies' game on Sunday.
YARDLEY, PA — A Yardley woman has been named one of three finalists in a cake decorating contest honoring a Philadelphia icon's birthday.
Andrea Gana, a bakery specialist at the Giant Food Store on Stony Hill Rd. in Yardley, is in the running for top honors in a contest celebrating the birthday of the Phillie Phanatic. She was selected from a field of 18 Giant employees competing from 15 stores across the region.
The winning cake will be presented to the beloved mascot during the Citizens Bank Phanatic Birthday celebration at the park on Sunday.

"Each and every day, our bakery specialists create works of art for their customers to help them celebrate special moments," said Dave Lessard, vice president of category management for Giant. "This contest is the perfect way to showcase our talented team members while celebrating our passion for Philadelphia and of course, our favorite mascot."
Bakers submitted photos of their cake creations on Tuesday and a committee comprised of associates at the corporate office in Carlise, PA, selected the top three cakes. Each had to feature the Citizens Bank Park logo and be relevant to the party's theme, "Magic."
