Slim Pickings Expected At Popular Bucks Co. Orchard This Fall

SOLEBURY, PA —The fall apple harvest at Solebury Orchard will look a lot different this year.

Earlier this year, a freeze hit the Bucks County orchard hard, taking out most of its crops, including a major portion of its sought-after apples.

“There are very few apples in the orchard, and at most times there will not be any apples to pick from the trees,” the orchard posted on Facebook. “We are sourcing apples from New York orchards to stock our market and will have bins of apples in the orchard rows as a substitute.

"While we won’t have as many varieties as we typically would, we are fortunate to be able to work directly with farms to obtain apples whose crunch and sweetness are just like our own," the orchard said.

The wagon will be running on weekends, and the market will be stocking cider donuts, cider ice, and cider along with its other products.

Apple picking reservations will still be required on Saturdays and Sundays in September and October. No reservations are required for Thursday or Friday or if you're only planning to visit the market.

The orchard has also added several new activities, including Craft Sundays with Twyl Trolley and story time with the Free Library of New Hope and Solebury, an Apple Scavenger Hunt, and a new Pumpkin Patch.
