State Rep. Bernie O’Neill Withdraws From Re-election Campaign

State Representative Bernie O'Neill has withdrawn from his re-election campaign to represent the 29th District.

State Representative Bernie O’Neill has withdrawn from the race to represent the 29th District, which includes Buckingham, Ivyland, New Hope, Solebury, Upper Southampton, Warminster, and Warwick.

O'Neill, a Republican who has served for 16 years, said he has "reached that bridge which requires me to put my family first."

"This has truly been one of the most difficult decisions that I’ve ever had to make, but I regretfully must announce my withdrawal from my campaign for re-election as State Representative," he said.

O'Neill is the guardian and caregiver for his sister, who has had some very serious health issues over this past year, he said in a statement shared with Patch. "It has become increasingly clear that her needs require more and more of my personal attention, care and support," he said.

He will serve out the remainder of his term.

The Department of State will notify the Bucks County GOP Committee as to the procedure and deadline to appoint a replacement. The committee will then go through the process of selecting a candidate, O'Neill explained.
