Organizers Cancel Aug. 1 Fireworks, Drone Show In New Hope

NEW HOPE, PA — The New Hope Summer Series & Fireworks Show scheduled for Friday, August 1, has been canceled by organizers.

"We hate to be the bearers of disappointing news, but after closely monitoring weather reports and river conditions, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the Aug. 1st Fireworks and Drone Show," the folks at the Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce wrote on Facebook.

"This wasn’t made lightly," said the chamber. "With significant rain in the forecast and potential flash flooding, launching fireworks from a barge becomes unsafe. We’ve encountered this issue once before, when high water levels prevented safe access to the launch vessel. Safety must come first for our crew, our community, and everyone who comes to enjoy the show."

The chamber continued, "We know how much you all look forward to these nights on the river. We were heartbroken by last month’s unexpected drone grounding due to a government-issued airspace restriction, and we’ve worked hard to ensure this next show would be seamless. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for August, but we’re not letting that stop us."

Mark your calendars for Friday, Sept. 5, the final fireworks and drone show this season.

"We’re planning a massive season finale full of surprises, including a special Eagles theme to get the region pumped for football season," said the chamber. "Expect drones, fireworks, music, and a few more surprises we're working on getting approval for."
