NEW HOPE, PA — Veterans from Solebury Township, New Hope, and Lambertville are invited to sit down for lunch with the New Hope-Solebury High School’s Social Studies Department on Friday, Nov. 10.

It's all part of a Veteran's Day program and luncheon that has been taking place for the past 20 years.

“It all started with our commitment to honoring veterans and truly thanking them for their service,” said New Hope-Solebury faculty member Jon Gonsiewski.

Veterans are invited to visit with students in their classrooms and to share their military experiences and reflections.

“As they listen to the experiences shared by the veterans, the students are able to draw new connections with topics in our curriculum,” said Gonsiewski.

Following the classroom visits, the students and faculty will present a short program for the veterans in attendance, which has historically included a performance from the school choir and tokens of appreciation from the local Girl Scout troop.

Additionally, the high school is hosting a collection drive for goods to support the U.S. Marines and other active duty military personnel this holiday season.

“By recognizing and honoring local veterans in the presence of students, it is our hope that the veterans feel the appreciation we have for their commitment and sacrifice. We hope the students also are able to see the importance of thanking people who served our country,” said New Hope-Solebury faculty member Fred Achenbach. “It has really grown from a Social Studies Department event into a community event.”

The pot-luck luncheon will be held on Friday, November 10 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the New Hope-Solebury Administration Building. Registration is required before November 8. Please contact Fred Achenbach at fachenbach@nhsd.org or at (215) 862-2028 ext. 3223 to register.
