You Go Ghoul! High Heel Drag Race To Kick It Up A Notch In New Hope

Watch a gang of glamorous ghouls speed to the finish line in this sinister stiletto showdown.

NEW HOPE, PA — New Hope's High Heel Drag Race will take on the Mechanic Street hill on Sunday with plenty of feisty energy and pumpkins in hand.

Presented by New Hope Celebrates as part of "OUT In October," this year's race theme is "You Go Ghoul - Bewitched, Bedazzled, and Beyond Fabulous."

The long-standing tradition takes place on Sunday, October 29 beginning at 3 p.m. on West Mechanic Street in New Hope.

Hosted by none other than New Hope’s Miss Pumpkin, race participants must dress in Halloween-inspired drag costumes and wear three-inch or taller high heels. Runners will carry a pumpkin up the hill on W. Mechanic Street, decorate the pumpkin, and race back down the hill.

This is an inclusive event for all, representing the Delaware River Town’s inclusivity, diversity, equity, and acceptance.

“Myself and the NHC team are excited to see who comes out to race with us this year. We always look forward to the elaborate costumes and pageantry our runners bring to the event. This is an annual tradition for our community and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue presenting it and showcase the amazing community we live in," said Melissa Patterson, the president of New Hope Celebrates.

The event is free for attendees. There will be a 50/50 raffle and limited edition HHDR t-shirts available for sale; all proceeds go to New Hope Celebrates. The race begins promptly at 3 p.m.

Featured performers include Miss New Hope Celebrates, Phoebe Manntrapp, Mr. New Hope Celebrates, Amita Lady, as well as other local drag queens with music provided by DJ Gavin Patrick McIlhinney.

New Hope Celebrates (NHC) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on highlighting the history and cultural nuances of New Hope and Lambertville, NJ while stimulating the retail, hospitality, and professional community. NHC is comprised of a Board of Directors that drives activities and events that serve the diverse LGBTQ+ populace through the creation and promotion of marketing opportunities, educational activities, and cultural events. One such event is the annual, week-long Pride celebration held in May.

Since 2003, NHC has organized events that recognize the strong LGBTQ+ presence in the New Hope area and celebrated the history and culture of our scenic river towns. Funding generated through New Hope Celebrates events is channeled back into our community to support our neighbors in collaborative business and cultural initiatives that make New Hope a great place for residents and visitors alike.
